Description

I've been known to take some obtuse images of the sky, but this one might be a current record holder. Somewhere inside the box at the center of the image is Voyager 1, currently at 125.5AU from the sun and receeding at 17km/s having now entered interstellar space. While it is certainly invisible to any optical telescope on this planet, it's still possible that a photon or two of its reflected light impinged a pixel on my CCD during the 900 second luminosity exposure. I find a poignant comfort in that thought.

JPL's Voyager Mission site provides further information on the continuing Voyager mission. The current location of Voyager 1 and 2, Pioneer 1 and 2, and New Horizons spacecraft is available on The Heavens Above. The chart presented is a screen capture from TheSkyX Pro.
