Description

Like nearby Terzan 7, this object is an extragalactic globular cluster located 90,000 light years away in the constellation of Sagittarius at a declination of -35 degrees.  Terzan 8 is much larger.  This magnitude 12 cluster spans 7 arc-minute in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 180 light years.  Although the same visual magnitude as Terzan 7, Terzan 8 is harder to see because its much larger size makes it much dimmer to our eyes.
