      Description

NGC7217 is an unbarred spiral galaxy, characterized as a flocculent spiral structure, seen in the direction of the Constellation Pegasus at an approximate distance of 50 Million Light-Years. The intense star-forming concentric circles, prominent features of the galaxy, and a very active galactic nucleus with a supermassive black hole classifies it as an active galaxy. Older star formations are concentrated in the redish area between the blue star-forming rings. It has been postulated that NGC7217 owes its dynamic morphology to a prior collision with another galaxy, although no nearby neighbor is apparent. A ring of dust surrounds the nucleus, future fuel for the supermassive black hole. NGC7217 is also described as a gas poor, and is similar in its structure to NGC488.
