Description

Saturn on Easter Sunday 17 Apr 2022 AEST.

Imaged planetary trifecta this morning: Mars, Saturn and Venus.  The weather finally cooperated with a clear moonlit sky greeting me at 5am.

Following Mars runs I have removed the ADC and replaced Meade 2x Barlow with its TeleVue equivalent, decreasing focal ratio to F20.  Unfortunately seeing started to go downhill from here despite Saturn's higher elevation.  Only one stack proved to be usable and I had to apply strong DNR in place of WinJUPOS derotation.  This single 4 minute stack combines approximately 1,700 frames and is centered on 5:55 am AEST.

With the brightening sky and not much data available I found colour balancing quite challenging in this image (it is nearly impossible to remove the ever-present blue tinge).  Despite all this it is nice to capture a more oblique aspect of the rings as Saturn progresses in its orbit around the the Sun.  Looking forward to this year's opposition in August.
