Description

This spiral galaxy in Andromeda has apparent dimension of 13.5’ x 2.5’ and it is characteristic for dust lane.

It has a distance of 32 million light years and a diameter of 126000 light years, so it is larger than Milky Way and in addition has a higher activity in terms of star formation rate and radio luminosity. This could be due to tidal perturbations with another galaxy, which led also to a warp of the disc plane of the galaxy.

Indeed, following the dust lane in the image, you can see that on one side the dust lane is bent downward while on the other side is bent upward.
