Description

On the evening of March 3rd I tested the new ZWO ASI533 color camera for the first time. "First Light" is always exciting. The Horsehead Nebula is barely visible with the 10'' RC for a time frame of 1-2 hrs above the roof of our garage, but I decided to give it a go. Framing the object was easy, focusing is always a bit harder, but worked and around 20 hrs I was imaging. I went back to the house for a cup of tea, took a 30 minutes breake or so and then returned to the observatory, which is situated 50 meters away.

Turning around the corner of our house, I looked directly at Orion and there it was... a very bright, slow moving "meteorite" (which after discussion below probably was a satellite) passing south of Alnitak, moving from SE to NW. I waited in pain for the 300 sec sub to finish and download, and there it was - the meteorite passing the Horse Lucky shot!

I combined 19x300sec of the horse and let the meteorite-frame work as a seperate layer, combining them in Photoshop.

Of course, a bigger FOV would have been better, but....

I do not know much about the speed of meteors, but this one moved "very slowely" and was visible for 3-4 seconds loosing luminosity as it moved towards NW. Could it have been something else? Comments are most welcome!
