Description

Nebulae & Clusters in Dorado

We start again our publications after a little interruption.

This image is from décember 2020.

This image is one part of remnants of supernovae with 2 complex N44 and N51 with many open clusters embedded.

The N 44 complex (top left)

has a distinctive delta outline that is unmistakable in a telescope. The Hubble Space Telescope has closed in on the tiny nebula NGC 1929 at the north-west apex of the delta to reveal a flower on a stem nebula where young stars are blowing out a cavity in the nebulosity similar to the process occurring with M 42. Kont 822 is the large open cluster at the heart of the complex creating the nearly oval shaped superbubble.

Known as the N44 superbubble complex, this cloudy tempest is dominated by a vast bubble about 325 by 250 light-years across. A cluster of massive stars inside the cavern has cleared away gas to form a distinctive mouth-shaped hollow shell. While astronomers do not agree on exactly how this bubble has evolved, for as long as 10 million years, they do know that the central cluster of massive stars is responsible for the cloud’s unusual appearance. It is likely that the explosive death of one or more of the cluster’s most massive and short-lived stars played a key role in the formation of the large bubble. The image captures light of specific colors that reveal the compression of material and the presence of gases (primarily excited hydrogen gas and lesser amounts of oxygen and “shocked” sulfur) in the cloud. Multiple smaller bubbles appear in the image as bulbous growths clinging to the central superbubble. Most of these regions were probably formed as part of the same process that shaped the central cluster. Their formation could also have been “sparked” by compression as the central stars pushed the surrounding gas outward. Our view into this cavern is believed to be like looking through an elongated tube, which gives the object its monstrous mouth-like appearance.

We can observe many open clusters in it : NGC 1934-NGC 1955-NGC 1968- NGC 1974- NGC 1991

N51 complex (bottom right) :

this flower-like nebula complex is amazingly similar to the Tulip Nebula, NGC 1966. In this instance NGCs 1968 and 1974 make up a stem to the bloom of NGC 1955 when west is at the top as per Fig. 8.12 . Once again we have a similar scenario to M 42 where the central cluster of NGC 1955 is creating a crater in the surrounding nebula. IC 2126(NGC 1935) is an emission nebula part of this complex .

We can also observe many open clusters in it : NGC 1929-NGC 1934-NGC 1936-NGC 1937.

IC 2128 is a star cluster and nebula at the south of the complex
