Description

IC348 is a star forming region in Perseus. In this framing, IC348 is just above Atik, the brightest star in this image. Barnard 3 is the dark nebula to the left of Atik and IC348.

This image presented several challenges. After collecting RGB data and doing some test processing, I noticed the nebulosity around Barnard 3 was understated. I took some Ha data and wasn’t encouraged as I watched subframes coming out of the camera. But, once I did a test stack, I found what I was looking for. Next, the bright star Atik demonstrated the well documented microlensing artifact produced by the ASI-1600 sensor. I decided to attempt to soften this with the use of masking and multi-scale processing. Overall I am very happy with the final result.

I used Starnet++ to create a starless version of the Ha data and blended this back into the red channel. I also used Starnet++ to create the enhance version of the image.
