Description

I had first light recently with a new 9.25HD Edge and the ASI2600MM Pro.  At 1x1 it is slightly oversampled.  I researched and found it was suggested to use 2x2 binning with this setup.  The image of SH2-155 I posted on 9/17/2021 was shot over 3 nights at 2x2 binning here.  As promised, the 1x1 binning comparison image was taken the next night using same setup.  Both are 70x300 using an Astrodon 5nm Ha filter.

Statistics for 1x1 binning from Bintel:
Aperture 235mm /9.25 inches
Non-Native Focal Length / F: 1645mm / F7
Ideal Resolution : 0.67" - 2" arcseconds
Resolution 0.47" arcseconds per pixel
Sampling Slight Oversampling ✅
Camera Chip FOV 0.82° x 0.55°

@Rüdiger had commented on my 2x2 image when I asked about binning with the Edge setup that, "binning 1 will not reveal more details, but blow up the stars, which looks not very nice. Even if you think it looks like more detail, it is not. Physically it contains no additional information."    He was ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!  Thank you Rüdiger!  (I had to see for myself the exact comparison though.)

While the images both look similar, you really have to pixel peep to see that the 2x2 actually has sightly less noise and more detail.  This was at first counter intuitive to me as the 2x2 file is 1/4 the size, 52MBs vs. 13MBs.   The stars, while they look the same, the FWHM are  larger in the 1X1 binning.  I realize this may not the most scientific comparison as shot on back to back nights with possibly different seeing, although the skies have been consistent.  I am convinced to go with 2x2 binning with this rig for now...will revisit in galaxy season.
