Description

M81, Bode's Galaxy

This is a spiral galaxy approximately 12 Million Ly from Earth, and approximately 90,000 ly in diameter.

Its proximity to Earth, large size, and relatively high brightness has led to M81 being extensively studied by professional astronomers as well as being a popular target from amateur astronomers.
