Description

The Pleiades are an open star cluster in the constellation Taurus and lie some 450 light years away. It's apparent diameter is roughly 4 times the size of the full moon and is one of the more conspicuous clusters in the sky. It consists of hot middle aged blue stars along with dust that forms a reflection nebula that was left over from when the cluster was formed. It is estimated that M45 will persist for another 250 million years or so before it disassociates due to gravitational interactions in its galactic neighborhood.
