Description

Taken the night of Nov 19th with the CGE11 and the QHY5III178M camera. Mare Crisium in an "early" waxing moon. Located on the far east side, Mare Crisium is an old crater/mare likely nearly 4 billion years old that spans about 460 miles across. It's estimated that parts of the rim rises about 2.1 miles above the floor. It is one of the few landmarks I try to instill on novices to learn just a few lunar features during outreach events. Some say they can see a "crab" in this mare with the two obvious craters being the eyes. The bottom most "eye" is called "Picard", and likely not for Jean-Luc!
