Description

A seldomly photographed objekt: The two brightest parts of Sh 2-27.
As far as I know, these don't have any separate names, do they?

North of the constellation of Scorpius the immense but faint emission nebula Sharpless 2-27 is located.
This HII structure is irradiated by Zeta Ophiuchi, which is a bright O9 V star in the constellation of Ophiuchus.

The original version of this picture only shows the right nebula tone-mapped and with RGB-stars.
But I like the greyscale Ha-only version best - hope you like it, too!

QHY600M on Esprit 100/550, tracked with SW EQ6-R and MGEN-3.
