Description

The Eta Carinae Nebula in the constellation Carina at around 7500 light years away. The big, bright beauty that is incredibly iconic of the southern skies and needs no introduction. In fact, it’s bright enough to be seen with the naked eye! It responds very well to all [SII], H-alpha and [OIII] narrowband filters resulting in a very pleasing Hubble palette that puts on a full display of many intricate features and details. I've included a few crops of some of the named features.

The well known Keyhole featuring the "defiant finger". Basically sums up what the universe thinks of us!

And who can forget the Mystic Mountains.

The caterpillar.

Plus something else that caught my eye. Kind of looks like a mermaid flicking her hair back after breaching the waters surface!
