Description

Coma Berenices is one of my favorite constellations: its placement in direction of North Galactic Pole entails full visibility of uncountable galaxies outside the Milky Way.

The Coma Cluster is a jewel including more than 1000 elements whose average distance is approximately 320Mly.

Together with the Abell 1367 Leo Cluster, it is part of the Coma Supercluster.

It was by observing this cluster that the great Swiss astronomer Franz Zwicky hypothesized in 1933 the presence of "dunkle Materie". The term was so effective, that has been generally adopted by the scientific community to define dark matter.
