Description

A Delicate Nebula in Orion: NGC 1788.Rather unimagined, overshadowed by the many stars of Orion, the nebula by reflection of Orion seemed to us to be an interesting subject.Although this ghostly cloud is rather isolated from orion's bright stars, their powerful winds and light have a strong impact on the nebula, forging its shape and making it a home for a multitude of nascent suns. The dark nebulae Lynds 1616 & to the left of the nebula bring a "phantasmagorical" aspect to the cliché.NGC 1788 is an unusually reflective nebula (bluish white to the right of the image) surrounded by a bright red ring of hydrogen gas. The stars inside the nebula are only about a million years old, which is very young compared to most stars. The incandescent hydrogen gas ring is powered by nearby hot, massive stars that are not necessarily visible in the image.
