Description

The two NGC numbers refer to the nebulosity around the star (i.e. the mustachios at the side of the star) and to reflection nebula illuminated by said star. The supposed variability has nearly vanished in modern times according to my recollection, so much so that is not anger a "hot" target for those of us who follows such nerdy objects.

The top image is due to my foolishness in trying to go after it a f/10. Don't really know what I was thinking about. This image was taken in 2007. The bottom image was taken a year after, nearly to the day (well at least some of the data was). Here I was more sensible in terms of focal ratios but I was using the MK67 so the final image isn't as deep (in proportion) to the previous one. I couldn't see any obvious variations so it confirmed to me that the variability wasn't much of a thing (opposed to what happens with the Hubble's variable nebula or HH215-Gyulbudaghian's Nebula).
