Description

The two dominant galaxies in this image are NGC 5746 (lower left) and NGC 5740 (upper right). Both galaxies share some common morphology characteristics (SAB(rs)). This field is in the eastern part of the constellation of Virgo. The smaller galaxy in the very upper right is the remaining NGC object in this field - NGC 5738. All three galaxies together form the galaxy group [CFM2007] HDC 888 from the Crook+ group catalog created 2007 from the 2MASS (survey). There are other visible background galaxies in this field with some high redshift values that put their lookback distance at distances of about 1 billion light years Some of these galaxies and some of the brighter stars are identified in the annotated image. Horizontal FOV is approximately 38 arc minutes.
