Mars one hour after sunset on Fri 13 Nov 2020 UTC.

Derotated and colour corrected view of the latest dust storm in Valles Marineris. Imaged Red Planet for just over two hours in variable seeing disrupted by fast moving low level clouds. Conditions were good early on but disintegrated as the planet rose higher. Seven best stacks acquired between 7:56 and 8:53 pm ADST make up this image, 14,770 frames in total.

Mars is distinctly smaller now (just under 18 arc seconds) and displays stronger phase (96%) as the two worlds drift further apart. Canyon tributaries are filled by yellow dust clouds along Melas Lacus, Agathadaemon and western Aurorae Sinus. There is also a bright spot over Juventae Fons that appears to spill northward.

In the south Argyre Basin has a hint of light cloud cover over it and Darwin crater correlates with a prominent dark spot. The South Polar Cap is a former shadow to what it was earlier on this year.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
