Description

Getting the outer OIII shell proved to be challenging. I have seen some images of Abell 81 that made that outer OIII shell seem uniform all around. I found that not to be the case at all. Furthermore, I found some nice images of it that made it seem more teal than blue. In my RGB combination I found it to be more blue than teal actually. My goal was to process the data as natural as I could while bringing out detail as best as I could.

IC 1454/Abell 81 is the northernmost of the Abell planetary nebula located in Cepheus only 9.56 degrees from the pole. It is about 38" of arc across. Catalogs list it at 14 and 15th magnitude with an 18.8 magnitude central star.
