Description

Here we have a first-light image using a new camera. I had been thinking a lot about imaging at longer focal lengths for galaxy season. I was particularly interested in getting better sampling than what I could do with my current cameras which have pretty small pixels. I looked at a lot of cameras in the CMOS category but found none with larger pixels, except for the ASI174. This camera, I came to believe, was much better suited to planetary work as a few folks who have experience with the camera noted very significant amp glow.

I happened upon this Omegon camera that has 9um pixel that is sold in Europe. After some careful consideration, I purchased it. I am fairly pleased with it so far although I will say those of us who use ZWO cameras are a little spoiled by the great documentation they provide for their products. This was not the case with this camera and I am still waiting for an answer to a couple of questions from Omegon.

I do believe the camera is actually a rebranded Touptek camera and Mallincam also offers one that looks virtually identical to mine.

In any case, this is a first-light and as such, not the best work I've done. But as with everything, there is a learning curve and hopefully my next image will be a bit better. In this one I think I'm a little undersampled and I did have some issues with my automatic focuser, since sorted.

I did use my ASI183mc OSC for the RGB binned 3x. the HA and L were done with the veTEC.

So this is an image of M66, one of the Leo Triplet.

I hope you like it and as always, comments / criticism is welcome.

CS and good health!
