Description

NGC3718 is a warped spiral galaxy at a declination of 53° 14' in the constellation of Ursa Major. It is 47.84 million light years from Earth. From this image I determined that from end to end of the spiral arms it is approximately 149,000 ly across and 30,000 ly wide. The Hickson Group 56 galaxies below are 5 galaxies that are approximately 400 million ly distant! NGC3729 is approximately 150,000 ly from NGC3718, and it is likely that they are interacting gravitationally, causing the peculiar shape of this galaxy.

I certainly could have used more time on this object, but it looks like cloudy skies for a while, so I thought I would go with it and see if I get lucky with more time later. I was just happy to see stars so round coming out of my Edge HD 8. Clearly, the repairs that Celestron did have made a difference.
