Description

On the morning of October 22, 2020, newly discovered Comet C/2020 S3 Erasmus closed in on planetary nebula Abell 33.

Both objects are of similar colors with a ghostly eerie pale green-blue. Both are of similar sizes projected into the same swath of sky. That's where the similarities end.

Comet Erasmus is moving rapidly in our own solar system with a rondeaux just inside the planet Mercury's orbit on December 13, 2020. Will it get Bright?

Planetary nebula Abell33 is a +12.9 magnitude comet approximately 2500 light years away. It is a remnant of a dying star that has coughed up an envelope of gas into a giant blue bubble. The star is still extremely hot and the star's uv radiation is exciting the oxygen atoms in the cloud turning the bubble an eerie blue.
