Description

This PN, also known as PK 231+041, is a planetary nebula located 15000 light years away in the constellation of Puppis at a declination of -14 degrees.  It is a magnitude 14 PN which spans 30 arc-seconds in our apparent view.  This corresponds to the typical PN diameter of 2 light years.  It is located just one-half degree north of M46.

This PN, one of the many interesting PN in the Minkowski catalog, has an interesting interior structure.  Like many PN, the outer rim is stronger in HII while the inner section is stronger in OIII. The PN looks like it has had a hole punched out of the center.  In addition, in the direction from lower right to upper left, the PN is a bit dimmer and more diffuse.  I do not see the progenitor star.
