Description

This is the spectrum of Vega, where you can see the complete lines of the Hydrogen Balmer series. They are describing the spectral lines of the hydrogen atom, and they are very prominent in a class A star like Vega. I removed the UV/IR cut filter from the camera to see the lines below 400nm, because they are already in the ultraviolet range.
The profile on top is from the camera, calibrated to the correct wavelenghts. But the sensor doesn't have the same sesitivity to all of the wavelenghts. So you have to generate an instrument response to correct the curve. This can take some time, but you only have to do it once for your setup.
On the bottom, the corrected curve is applied and you get a perfect profile from your object. The red line is the profile I made, and the blue line is a reference from a professional database. They are pretty close!
It's really fascinating what you can do with this cheap equipment these days.😃
