Description

This shows NGC 3718 , a warped twisted spiral galaxy around 52 million light years away. Towards the bottom of the image is NGC 3729, which is a mere 150,000 light years away, and the interaction between the 2 is probably causing the twisting of NGC 3718. The group - actually 5 - of smaller looking galaxies just off the top arm of NGC 3718 are called Hickson 56. They appear so small because they are over 400 million light years away.
