Description

This barred spiral galaxy is located 40 million light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +32 degrees.  This magnitude 11 galaxy spans 7 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 80,000 light years.

The two galaxy arms extend out from the bar for 360 degrees around the circumference.  The arms are not continuous but are distinct.  Blue star clouds are scattered throughout the outer disk.

The core is not the typical yellow color but is bright white.  In fact, it is a Seyfert galaxy with an active galactic nucleus (AGN).
