Like most star-birth nebula, NGC 3576 has loops and bubbles of gas pushed outward from the most active sites of star formation. These loops shine by the hypervelocity winds and the intense radiation from the new stars as well as the shock stimulation at the loops’ leading edges.

NGC 3603 (the nebula in the lower left of this image) is not associated with NGC 357. The latter lies at about 9,000 lyr from us while the former lies at more than twice that distance: 20,000 lyrs distant.
