Description

This is a shot into the heart of the Heart nebula (IC 1805). These cosmic clouds are sculpted by stellar winds and radiation from massive hot stars in the nebula's center. The relatively newborn cluster, Melotte 15, is about 1.5 million years old. The Heart nebula is located about 7500 light years away toward the constellation Cassiopeia.

This wide field version, shot with my 80mm f/6 apo with an Astro Tech 0.8X reducer/flattener reveals that IC 1805's simpler, overall outline suggests its popular name. Melotte 15 is seen in the center of the nebula. http://www.astrobin.com/62780/
