Description

NGC 7293, The Helix nebula in Aquarius. 700 light years away, this is the closest planetary nebula. Taken using narrow band filters, the red colour is ionised hydrogen and nitrogen, and the blue green colour is oxygen emission, ionised by the UV radiation from the central star.
This image was acquired from suburban Perth.
