Description

NGC 4216 is a giant, at 100,000 LY across (similar to our own Milky Way) and 40 million LY distance. It has a voracious appetite, 'gobbling up' neighbouring dwarf galaxies; this 'metal rich' galaxy has assumed dominance in this part of the Virgo cluster [Wikipedia]

Although overly deconvoluted and sharpened to emphasise the detail in the core and spiral arms, it would be nice to think we could see a hint of the estimated 700 globular clusters, but this short exposure does not capture the faint star streams and adjacent dwarf galaxies.

It would be a challenge, but I would like to try this again in H alpha to see what further detail is visible. A longer exposure and wider field image at f3.3 or even via my camera lens might bring out some of the faint neighbours (or victims).
