Description

This Abell object is a planetary nebula located 7000 light years away in the constellation of Cancer at a declination of +18 degrees.  It is a magnitude 13 PN which spans 2 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 4 light years, which is large for a PN.  The progenitor star is easily visible.

Although both OIII and HII are present throughout the nebula sphere, the interesting aspect of this object is the detailed OIII emissions seen in the inner region.  This OIII is brightest immediately around the central star, and then forms interesting curling, pinwheel-type patterns in the inner region of the sphere.  I extended my integration time on this object to better capture those patterns.

Oddly, a small bright reddish HII region is seen near the core at 7 o’clock.
