Description

The Elephant's Trunk nebula, is a concentration of interstellar gas and dust located in the constellation Cepheus about 2400 light‐years away from the Earth. It is commonly called the Elephant's Trunk nebula because the dark patch with a bright, sinuous rim resembles the elephant trunk. The bright rim of the surface of the dense cloud is illuminated and ionized by a very bright, massive star located in the upper‐middle of the image.
