Description

Sharpless 2-82, also known as the "Little Cocoon Nebula" is a small round emission nebula surrounded by a bluish reflection nebula. It lies within the Milky Way in Sagitta. Sh2-82 is roughly 7 arc min in size and 3,600 light years distant.

This is a rather short exposure for me from suburban skies so the image is a bit noisier than normal. It's comprised of a bit over 8hrs of exposure time with Ha being a good majority of it. Hopefully next season I can add a bunch more data to this interesting object.

Description: This is a new revision to Sharpless 2-82 with data collected in 2020 and additional data collected in Aug and Sep 2021. Total exposure time has increased from 8.8 hrs to nearly 21hrs showing fainter and better detail. Several small un cataloged reflection nebula are now visible in the upper left part of the image as are a few tiny Herbig-Haro objects. Hope you enjoy this new version.
