Description

M88 is my last image for March. I used the last clear night of the month to capture this beautiful galaxy. Usually I want to dedicate two nights per galaxy target but due to the unstable weather (clouds in the next 10+ nights) I decided to process what I have. Surprisingly it turned quite nice for my Celestron C6.

However I had problems with guiding. And the problems came from the lack of bright stars around M88. When I centered the target there was nothing to see in the guiding cam So I had to look around for a bright star in order to guide. But this exercise was fun as I learned what to do when no stars are around.

M88 is a spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices with visual magnitude of +9.36 and apparent size of 8.7x4.4 archmin. The distance from Earth is estimated at 36 million light years.

Waiting for the next clear nights.

CS,
Ivan
