Description

The Draco Trio!
Imaging wideband from the city is *hard* y'all! I had to cut this dataset to pieces and it was still a mess -- 10 hours of data out of 26.5 hours that I originally took. My flat frames were just not cooperating. But thanks to doing some synthetic flats in Photoshop and some generous cropping, it's not too shabby!

This little group is so cool because of the different galaxy types and angles all in one shot. The leftmost galaxy is NGC 5985, a mostly face-on spiral galaxy; NGC 5982 is a fuzzball of an elliptical galaxy; and NGC 5981 is an edge-on spiral galaxy. The trio lies about 130 million lightyears from Earth in the constellation Draco. The three galaxies together span about half the width of a full Moon.

There's a lot more detail to be seen on these three galaxies, so I will have to try again from somewhere darker in the future!
