Description

This object is a cluster of 34 galaxies located 340 million light years away in the constellation of Pegasus at a declination of +27 degrees.  This FOV focuses on the center of the cluster but does not quite capture the whole cluster.  I have previously captured a wider FOV of the entire galaxy cluster in this image.

The largest galaxy in the image is NGC 7768, the large elliptical just left of center. It is about 150,000 light years in diameter.  Oddly, it appears to be one of the only non-spiral galaxies in the image.

There are many interesting tiny galaxies in this field.  My favorite is the odd ring-type galaxy (PGC 72600) at right.   It appears to be a barred spiral galaxy with strong arms that has had a close encounter with an unseen passing galaxy.

If you enjoyed this Abell galaxy cluster and want to see more, please see my Astrobin collection of Abell galaxy clusters here.
