The Head of the Bull

Description

The Hyades Star Cluster, taken earlier this week. Was happy to pull out a bit of the dusty vista hidden in this area of sky, even if it did open the door to noise!

This cluster makes up the head in the constellation of Taurus the bull. It is the closest open cluster to us at only 153 light years away (travelling in the space shuttle at 18,000mph would still take around 4,900,000 years to reach the cluster) and there for is very well studied. It is also home to Aldebaran, or at least thats how it appears. The red giant is actually not a member of the cluster and lies a mere 68 light years away making it one of the brightest stars in our night sky!

Exposure Details:

70* 180 second exposures, f4, ISO 1600, calibration frames, 200mm

Taken with a Canon 1100D and a EF200L on a NEQ6
