Bubble Nebula - NGC 7635 - SHO

This is the first mono-based image we've ever taken at full focal length. That's appropriate since the Bubble was the first emission nebula shot we ever took at this focal length a little over a year ago using an OSC.

Description: We're still learning how to process mono images in SHO. The green was a little garish on the original. We want to preserve the chemistry that the green channel conveys, but we want it to be a little more subtle.

Description: I haven't had any new data lately because of weather, so I applied some new stacking and processing techniques to this image that I've learned from Ron Brecher since I captured the data for this image. This time I restacked the subs using 10 iterations of local normalization correction, and I applied 20 iterations of deconvolution.

Description: I applied a bunch of techniques that are new to me that I learned from Paulyman. First, is applying BXT and NXT to each channel separately. The second is using GHS. That produced a lot more detail and color variation in this, which I find very pleasing. I really like the data for this image, though it's not perfect. It serves as a very good canary in my coal mine.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
