Description

Hi astro-friends,

A clear and descent night on 12th September gave me the opportunity to shot this beautiful galaxy located some 2.76 million l-y away in constellation Triangulum. With an apparent size of 70’ by 40’, the 3th biggest member of the Local Group (Milky Way and M31 are bigger) is about 50’000 to 60’000 l-y in diameter. Discovered first in 1654 by Sicilian astronomer Giovanni Hodierna, this galaxy has found its place in Charles Messier catalog under #33 in 1764 and is a face-one SA(s)cd type showing a great amount of HII regions. The north spiral arm is home of four great areas : NGC 588, NGC 592, NGC 595 and NGC 604. This late one is the most luminous and spans 1’500 l-y.

Despite the short integration time, I’m very pleased with this final result lighting up those HII regions very well, and also amazed by all tiny faint « spots » in the background as they are galaxies too. Look at the rev B for annotation.

Hope you will enjoy this image and feel free to leave a comment. Thanks!

Clear skies and stay well!

Christophe
