Description

This is an image of the Elephant's Trunk Nebula in the constellation Cepheus about 2,400 light-years away from Earth. The nebula is mostly interstellar gas and dust.

This image is the result of combining Hydrogen-Alpha, Luminance, Red, Green and Blue filters. Each individual exposure was ten minutes resulting in a total exposure time of 14.5 hours.

Images were collected during the months of October and November 2019 from my telescope observatory in Mayhill, New Mexico. The telescope and observatory equipment was controlled remotely from my home in Lebanon, TN where I downloaded the raw images. I used PixInsight image processing software to create the final image you see here.
