Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a galaxy located 85 million light years away in the constellation of Leo at a declination of +27 degrees.  It spans only 50 arc-seconds in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a small diameter of 25,000 light years.

This is a seldom imaged or studied object.  Although I haven't seen any discussion along these lines, it looks like a Stage 4 Galaxy Merger (Coalesced Cores) to me, with starburst activity occurring as a result of the interactions.  The galaxy disk has been obliterated and only the inner sections of both galaxies are left remaining.  The yellow central portion looks like a remnant core with brown dust lanes wrapping around the nearly spherical object.
