Description

The Trifid is an interesting combination of Emission, Dark and Reflection nebulae, while with an open cluster of stars. It's name comes from the appearance of being sliced in three parts. At about 21LY in diameter and 4000LY in distance, it's relatively close.

Then there is the Lagoon, an emission nebula about 58LY across and up to 6000LY away is a giant system that is also known as the hour-glass nebula (due to the shape in the inside)
