Description

This image was constructed from 11 panels, captured with the ZWO ASI 1600MC camera…so OSC at prime focus (no focal length increaser). The full .tiff image is 1.17GB in size. Note the subtle colour variations around the disk of the moon.

Of course by constructing the image from multiple panels stitched together you can have a very high resolution overall.

This is a south up view to show the Moon as we see it here in Australia, so for those viewers from the Northern Hemisphere it may look odd. Yes we have the Tycho rayed crater at the top and raining its ejecta down over the disk of the Moon.

If you look towards the top of the lunar disk and to the right you will find Schiller. Just to confuse you, since my recent detailed image of Schiller was North up, Version B is a comparison of Schiller from this image with the one I posted recently.

The top image is an enlargement from the image of the entire moon here. The image scale is 0.2 arc secs per pixel, allowing a resolution of something like 0.6 arc secs or 1.1 km on the lunar surface. However, being a One Shot Colour (OSC), there is a bayer matrix, where each block of 4 pixels has 1 x red, 1x blue and 2 x green filters, so there is a loss of sensitivity and resolution. The actual resolution is more likely 1.5 km. For a full image of the moon this is still a very high resolution.

The bottom image by comparison is the one from my previous post, from a monochrome RGB arrangement and a 3X focal length increaser giving an image scale of 0.09 arc secs and a resolution of 0.27 arc secs or ~ 500m.

I hope you find the comparison interesting.
