Description

This object is a spiral galaxy located 50 million light years away in the constellation of Coma Berenices at a declination of +17 degrees. This magnitude 10 galaxy spans 4.3 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 65,000 light years.

This galaxy has an occluded disk without much structure except for the dark dust lanes which spiral in to the bright core. It is classified as an "anemic galaxy", which means that it has low contrast between its spiral arms and its disk.

But despite this label, I like the subtle and unusual structure of the disk. The upper left and lower right regions of the disk look darker. I assume this is because the star density in these areas is less, which I find hard to understand.
