Description

This object is a supernova remnant (SNR) located 11,000 light years away in the constellation of Cassiopeia at a declination of +59 degrees. The SNR spans 5 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 16 light years.

This is a dim object, which is why I tripled my typical total integration time. I primarily used a HSO palette with RGB stars. I deviated from the usual SHO narrowband palette because SII is the dominant gas in this SNR and very little Ha is present. I also combined some of the broadband signal into the palette using PI's NBRGBCombination process.

The structure of this SNR is unusual. Ha only shows up as reddish knots at 11 o'clock and 5 o'clock, which I confirmed are actually knots and not artifacts using the Hubble image. The gas fronts are somewhat blurred and are not sharply defined arcs as are often the case in these SNRs.
