Description

The Tarantula Nebula (also known as 30 Doradus or NGC 2070)

On the outskirts of the large magellanic cloud 160,000 light years away lies the large HII region of the Tarantula Nebula, its luminosity is so great that if it were as close to Earth as the Orion Nebula (1,500 LY), this Nebula would cast visible shadows.Home to star clusters, supernova remnants and even a black hole this region of space is so busy I had to include an annotated image to show the insanity of surrounding designations. Not to mention the distinct blue edge of the LMC captured in the bottom right hand corner, a satellite galaxy thought to be the 2nd or 3rd closest galaxy to the milky way (and much too large to be captured by my scope) .

The Gear:
📷 ASI294MC Pro and Optolong L-enhance filter
🔭 WO Zenithstar Z73 @ 430mm
- ZWO ASI120MM Guide Camera
- ASIAIR Plus for capture sequence
- Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro Mount
- 60 x 5min Exposures for a total of 5hrs Integration (my longest to date)The Processing:
- Stacked and Processed in Pixinsight
- WBPP w/ Drizzle Integration
- DBE -> Image Solver -> SPCC -> SCNR
- BlurX -> NoiseX
- Gentle Histogram Stretch -> StarX (with unscreen stars)
- Curves, HDR, Unsharp Mask on Starless (Range Selection to mask background)
- Slight curves adjustments and MT on Stars
- Pixel Math to combine (Star rescreening)
