Description

NGC 1514 is the only PN in Taurus and a pretty big one too, but it is somewhat obscured by the far higher prizes of M45 and M1, so most people tend to go after them rather than this. Which is a pity as it is one of the prettiest out there in the northern hemisphere. I suspect that there are fainter outer layers out there, but, as it is my time-honoured practice, I've never looked for other pictures whilst at it and I suspect what was there wasn't much to talk about. Things should have changed by now. Still it was good picture in the day, 14 years ago. I have re-processed the base frames into a new rendering to get a better colour rendition of both stars and PN, showing a proper teal colour (it is overwhelmingly OIII emission).

As for all my images of the same vintage all acquisitions are duly unguided.
