Description

Now that it is the season of galaxies, I wanted to try the Takahashi E-130 on these jewels of the heavens. I really love the Leo Triplet (right, then clockwise, NGC 3628, M65, M66). These galaxies are a true group and, accordingly, have very similar redshifts and distances. Both M65 and M66 are classified as SAB types, meaning spiral with weakly formed bars. NGC 3628 is a peculiar type SA (spiral) galaxy. The dust in the plane of NGC 3628 is seen clearly due to its edge-on orientation. All of the subs were taken tracked but unguided and uncooled (but it was chilly) for 30 s. All together there were 170 subs at 30 s each = 5100 s = 1.4 hours of integration.
