Description

At a distance of 25 million light years away, NGC 3184 is about 50,000 light years across. The blue color of its spiral arms comes from a relatively few bright young blue stars. The area between these spiral arms is not devoid of matter, however - the bright stars that highlight the arms were created in huge density waves that circle the nucleus. NGC 3184 is notable for its high abundance of heavy elements, and a supernova (SN 1999gi) that occurred there recently.

Because of clouds I ended up with less than 2 hours of total imaging time - I was unable to get to the Ha filter (time and clouds) ...so those multiple red/pink spots along the blue spiral arms are missing. Clearly, this image is missing data......if we ever see a clear sky again, I plan to more R,G,B and Ha data.
